RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh-based editorial photographer Bryan Regan recently photographed “Raleigh on a Roll,”an editorial feature for Walter Magazine celebrating Raleigh’s skateboarding and roller-skating culture.
For Regan, the assignment was more than just another editorial shoot—it was a project that hit close to home. As a former skateboarder with longstanding ties to Raleigh’s skateboarding community, Regan brought a personal understanding of the culture, energy, and characters that make the local scene unique.
The assignment gave Regan the opportunity to combine his editorial experience with his familiarity with skateboarding, capturing the movement, personalities, and sense of community behind Raleigh’s rolling culture. His images were created to complement the story while giving readers an authentic visual look at the people and places that keep Raleigh rolling.
“This was a really fun project and right up my alley,” says Regan. “Having spent years skateboarding myself, I understood the culture and the energy behind it. It was great to get back around that world with a camera and tell the story from an editorial perspective.”
Known for his authentic, story-driven photography, Regan has spent more than 30 years creating editorial and commercial imagery for magazines, brands, and organizations. His work spans portraiture, lifestyle, environmental photography, and visual storytelling, with a particular focus on capturing real people and genuine moments.
The “Raleigh on a Roll” assignment reflects Regan’s ability to bring both professional experience and personal perspective to editorial projects—creating photographs that not only illustrate a story, but help bring it to life.
