Anatomy of a photo shoot

Anatomy of a photo shoot - Corporate photography Raleigh, NC
I shoot a ton of editorial work. It usually goes like this .... You get a phone call or email from a photoeditor of a magazine to go somewhere you've never been and photograph someone you've never met. You pack everything you think you'll need show up early and set up. Your luck if you get 15-30 minutes with the subject.
Today was different, I had a nice easy corporate photoshoot. The first thing I do is talk to the art director and find out exactly what they're looking for. Today was people on a white background. Simple enough ? We could throw up a couple of softboxes and umbrellas and be done, but we wanted some backlight and some detail in the dark suits. Before I show up I draw a lighting diagram to figure out what lights, stands and flags I'll need. We ended up using a bunch of grids and a ring light. Image on the right is pretty much straight out of camera.

Raleigh documentary photography

All my old stomping grounds are disappearing, Blimpies, Barry’s, Rathskeller, 5-0, Comet, Brewery, Bourbon St./Jack Pot and now Saslack’s. Back in the 80’s-90’s Hillsborough Street was full of energy, excitement and live music. If you were looking for a watering hole or live music Hillsborough Street was the place to be. Times have changed and it’s like a ghost town after dark.
Like most people I thought Sadlack’s Heroes would be around forever, I’m sad to see it go and be replaced with a hotel and retail. I bet they put in a Subway or a Starbucks. I wish them luck in the new location.
Straight from the Sadlack’s blog - Sadlacks Heroes is a Raleigh, NC institution. It is located at the corner of Hillsborough and Enterprise Streets, across from NC State University. For over 30 years, Sadlacks has served Raleigh’s best and freshest heroes (including legendary vegetarian selections) while entertaining the populace with the region’s finest live musical  entertainment. The food is always fresh, using only the best meats, cheeses and vegetables cut daily. A sandwich shop by day and a bar by night, Sadlacks is a place for all-comers. It has employed many of the areas finest musicians, including members of Whiskeytown, Six String Drag, Patty Hurst Shifter, Corrosion of Conformity and many others. Stop by for a sandwich and a cold beer. Enjoy an afternoon on the porch. Bring your dog or your children. You never know who you may run into at Sadlacks.

Raleigh commercial photography

Raleigh commercial photography - Worked on a really project for CREE. We used the new CREE TW series LED lights and off the shelf brands to photograph a color comparison. I was surprised that straight out of the camera the CREE bulbs looked so much better than the other LED bulbs. I always though images were photoshopped together. It was also interesting to work with standard light fixtures you find at your local hardware store.
