I got a call on Thur. from the photo editor of The Washington Post to photograph a pair of shoes worn by Karl Bushby, a man walking around the world. They said he would be in my area for the next 3 days, here’s his cell number. I was booked on Friday and had an 8 hour round trip picking up the kids from camp on Saturday, so that left Sunday for the shoot. I envisioned meeting Karl on the side of the road, setting up an 8 x 8 Scrim and drape it in black velvet making a little roadside studio. I woke up Sunday to severe thunderstorm warnings and 50 mph wind gust. I tracked Karl down at a Subway outside of Goldsboro NC. The rain was falling and the wind was howling, so my roadside studio idea wasn’t going to work. On the drive down I was trying to think of where can I shoot this ? I thought under a gas station, an awning or on the sidewalk of a strip mall that was covered. Fortunately the Goldsboro Fire Department was across the street. I ran over and explained who I was and what I
was doing. They were kind enought to let us use a corner of the fire station to set up a still life set.

Bike Week - Myrtle Beach, SC. - May 9 – 18, 2014.
A major motorcycle event that takes place in May each year and has drawn motorcycle riders and enthusiasts alike since 1940, it attracts more than 300,000 visitors each year.
As a child I remember being on vacation with my family during Bike Week, the roar of the engines the smell of gas and the interesting looking people. This year I decided to go on a photo journey to try and capture some of those images from my memory. I didn't find exactly what I was looking for. From what I learned the Bikers got to rowdy for Myrtle Beach and most of the action now takes place in Merrel's Inlet SC. It’s a 13 mile ride that takes about an hour to drive with all the traffic. I think I spent more time in my car than actually taking photo’s. I went looking for the rowdy parties, drunken brawls and scantily clad women. I did find some, they were few and far between. Seems like the Biker culture has changed with fancy Harley-Davidsons driven by doctors and lawyers. A fun time was had by all.

Raleigh editorial photography
Raleigh editorial photography - Neighborhood Project. I've been driving by Miss T and her dog Pinto for over a year. I finally got up the nerve to stop and ask if I could take her picture. Most days she's out front with a shot glass and a bottle of Richards Irish Rose. I don't usually have a problem with talking to people about taking their photo, but there was something very intimidating about Miss T. Maybe it was the location ? Bragg St. and Person, most people won't even get out of their car unless they were looking for drugs. Miss T is a kind soul who has had a rough life, she was very welcoming. I got off @ 27 clicks of the camera and think I captured her well.

Had some plumbing issues at the studio. Photographed my plumber Alan. We were lucky The World of Beer Festival was going on so we had plenty of options across the street for a bathroom break.
